About Tim Halliday

Tim Halliday has spent much of his life paying attention to how people move through the world — sometimes out of curiosity, sometimes out of confusion, and often because he can’t help noticing the small things most of us rush past. His background in communication and marketing taught him a lot about clarity, behaviour, and how humans try (and fail) to make sense of things.

Alongside his professional life, Tim has explored philosophy and Buddhist practice for many years. Not academically, but in the everyday way most of us do: through lived experience, small questions, and the occasional moment of “what exactly am I doing?” Writing became a way to understand those questions rather than answer them.

He now writes with a minimalist lens and a practical curiosity, always looking for the small ideas that make life feel a little lighter or more meaningful. He is the author of Please Slow Down and Rituals, Routines and Repetition, the first books in the Simple Philosophies series.

Simple Philosophies

Simple Philosophies began with a straightforward idea: philosophy doesn’t need to be complicated or wrapped in academic language to be useful. It can be short, human, and even a little funny. It can live in the everyday moments we often overlook.

Rather than offering big theories or definitive answers, the series explores the small patterns of modern life — our habits, routines, pace, and inner voice — and asks gentle questions about how we might move through the world with more presence and less pressure.

Each book is intentionally short, intentionally simple, and intentionally free of “fancy trousers.” They’re not manuals or manifestos, but invitations to pause, notice, and think differently about the ordinary things that quietly shape us.

Beyond the books

Outside of writing, Tim hosts a monthly philosophy group at a local bookshop, where conversations drift between the profound and the delightfully absurd — often in the same breath. He enjoys exploring how ideas land in real life: in workplaces, relationships, routines, and the small rituals that make up a day.

He also experiments with ways to bring philosophy into everyday spaces: short videos, podcasts, talks, and the occasional over‑analysed supermarket trip. His work is less about teaching and more about sharing — offering reflections that readers can pick up, put down, and use however they like.

Above all, Tim believes philosophy belongs to everyone. Not just experts. Not just academics. Anyone with a curious mind, a busy life, and a desire to slow down long enough to notice what matters.

Wonderful little book. Very readable indeed, and with some important messages.

Magnificent light-reading book with touches of humor that kept me hooked (and I’m not an easy reader). It’s a much-needed reminder of the importance of slowing down in life, touching on different aspects of it.

This is a thoroughly engaging and easy read, sprinkled with humour that does not detract from the book's message. You will be saying to yourself 'yeah, you're dead right!'
